We work to empower justice-involved, at-risk, and/or commercially sexually exploited youth to make positive decisions for a successful future through our specialized E3 Engage, Educate, and Empower Professional Development Day program. During the day-long event filled with multiple workshops, speakers, and skill-building activities, Project Protect Our Children engages youth with opportunities to find their strengths, interests, and talents, educates them with the knowledge they need to succeed in real-world employment scenarios, and connects empowered youth to community stakeholders that could assist as they set their goals for the future.
Interested in what a E3 Professional Day might look like? Here is a sample agenda:
Workshops can run concurrently or continuously, depending on the number of youth attending.
- Speed Interviewing (60 Minutes) – Brief discussion, tips, and suggestions for a successful interview, then mock interviews. With the help of PPOC volunteers, youth participate in mock interviews, with feedback given after each interview regarding strengths and suggestions for improvement.
- Professional Dress (30-60 minutes, depending) – What is and isn’t appropriate for an interview, plus tips and tricks to add to your existing outfits. Then it’s time to shop! Provided by PPOC at least one item or outfit for each youth to take home.
- Careers – (180 minutes) This workshop is divided into 2- 90 minute workshops, with business professionals present at each workshop. Each presenter is allotted 15 minutes to speak and is given a guide on what information will be most valuable to share. If youth can be polled prior to the event to ask what careers they are interested in hearing about, we will make every effort to bring professionals from those fields to speak to them.
- Motivational Speaker (45-60 Minutes) – We will work towards securing a guest speaker that will complement our PDD content, inspire the youth, and provide two or three new ideas or strategies they can take away and implement to create positive change in their lives for a better future.
- Financial Planning – (45-60 Minutes) Planning for the future from a financial standpoint
We know that researchers have attributed recidivism among justice-involved youth to a number of factors, including inadequate skills necessary for employment. We are committed to providing opportunities to empower youth with the knowledge and skills to be able to make positive decisions for a successful future.
